Substitute Teachers

Substitute Teachers may be assigned to work with children from infancy through age five. Subs work with the teaching team in each classroom. Duties include reading, conducting circle time activities, assisting with meals and naptime, and supervision of children in the classroom and playground.

Substitutes are needed both full days and part days, Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Newell Drive and Diamond Village and 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Lake Alice (Diamond Village is currently being renovated and will reopen in Spring 2024).

  • If you meet hiring requirements, you will be scheduled for an interview (interviews are typically held once a semester, or on an as-needed basis

Requirements for employment as a substitute with UF ECC:

  • 2 years of experience working/volunteering with young children in preschool, school, or camp setting
  • DCF 40 Hour Training Certificate

  OR

  • 2 years of experience working/volunteering with young children in preschool, school, or camp setting

  • Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (CAAN – 4 hours)  – online training and competency exam OR just competency exam
  •    Child Growth and Development  (CGDR – 6 hours) – online training and competency exam OR just competency exam
  • Behavioral Observation and Screening (BOSR – 6 hours)  – online training and competency exam OR just competency exam
  • Child Care Facility Rules and Regulations (FACR – 6 hours) – online training and competency exam OR just competency exam
 

  • Maintaining a Safe and Respectful Campus (GET803)
  • FERPA Basics (PRV802)
  • Protecting Social Security Numbers (PRV804)
  • At – Risk for Faculty & Staff Kognito Training (KOG1100)
  • Understanding Developmentally Appropriate Practices (UDAP – 5 hours) – online training and competency exam, AND one (1) of the following: Infant and Toddler Appropriate Practices (ITPR – 5 Hours) – online training and competency exam
  • Preschool Appropriate Practices (PSPR – 5 hours) – online training and competency exam

 

1 year
  • Early Literacy for Children Birth through Three (ELC – 5 hours) – online training only
  • Basic Guidance and Discipline (BGD – 5 hours) – online training only
**If an employee has started their DCF trainings prior to being hired with BG, the ELC training must be completed within 1 year of starting the DCF trainings

DCF online trainings cost $10 each and the competency exam cost $5 each.
